Hello Forum, long time lurker, first time poster here.

My energy provider in Npower. I switched from Scottish Power in Oct 13.
In January this year, I received a letter in the post from Scottish Power Welcoming me with them. I did not switch back to them, I have no idea how this happened, I thought that I must call them to cancel this mistake. But I forgot about it, My mistake.

Therefore This week I got a letter from them asking me to pay the 'bill' of a few hundred £ for Gas only.

I'm going to call them up today, but I would like to know what is my best way of tackling this. What information should I have at hand?

I have thought of 2 or 3 reasons why SP have put me on an account

1: I did receive one of those calls by SP where they wanted to check I was better of without them, I gave the caller the time of day and answered his questions about the energy consumption rates and the tariff I'm on with Npower. I tuns out I am indeed better of. So either a) He put me down as a switch to get a commission
b) Some honest mistake or computer glitch

2: Another reason could be more likely.
This account has my an email address I used when I had a short lived business.
The account could have been set up by a malicious competitor?
I know its odd but that emails address was only for business related stuff. My home address was registered with the buisness website domain and can be looked up fairly easily

Any ideas on how I should go about terminating this account.

Thank you

Use a comparison site, find the best deal for you, and switch
(Don't forget about possible cashback opportunities :))

    Erroneous transfers are quite common.

As you say it could be malicious or an error. Scottish Power are in such a state that they will never have the capacity to investigate.
