Are you saying that with some disability a person can sign, but can't enter the pin?
I have heard of this before. Strange as it may seem apparently there is.

What sort of credit card do you hold that has no chip? You don't actually say in your OP that you are disabled in a way which prevents you entering a PIN so unless you are and can prove it I don't think anybody will be prepared to listen to you.
  • International card holder here from America in UK for business. We only have C&S cards, no pin credit cards. A restaurant did not take my chip and signature card! We didn't even have a means to immediate cash and had to have our business guest pay the bill for us. This seems too shady, are the fees higher?

No, it's just the vendor has less protection if they accept a signature vs pin as it's easier to forge.

The OP wanted to use signature because of their paranoia about chip and pin payments and created that as a reason to not want to use them

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Which shops where these at?

Did you ask to speak to the manager?

It may be that not all card readers are compatible with C&S. I base this guess (and it's only supposition) on the fact that in a group in a restaurant when we were splitting the bill onto individual cards, the server had to use a different card reader for our American friend. She had encountered the issue before and it was not a problem.

The merchant only has less protection if they have bypassed the pin and allowed the signature be used. If the card isn't chip and pin then they don't.

That is good to know though as I said, it's only is they use signature rather than pin. The person I quoted stated their card was signature only
