HUGE difference via Quidco or via Gocompare

Got a quote via Gocompare for house insurance. Policyexpert came out as £200.
Thought great, I'll go via Quidco and go straight to their site and get £65 cashback too. EXACTLY same quote came out as £350.
I've double-checked and ensured EXACTLY the same details were entered via Gocompare and directly.
It appears that the site is detecting that incoming link is from Quidco and loading it heavily. Always wondered how these companies could afford to pay such high cashback.
Daylight robbery if you ask me. Bribe people with £65 cashback then charge £150 more for the same insurance.

How much is it if you go direct without via quidco? or if you go via another advertiser like MSE?
Insurers often have differential pricing by channel. You have to remember that they would have to pay GoCompare about £65 if you buy from that quote so the theory it is purely to cover the marketing costs doesnt fully hold up as the marketing cost isnt going to be that different with either channel.
There is however a difference between people who are going onto an aggregator - they are very price sensitive -v- someone who has sort out a company by name and thus may be willing to pay extra for that brand.
Additionally some insurers sell different products via aggregators than they do on the phone or their own website. This may be as simple as that Legal Expenses is defaulted as included on the Phone, defaulted as excluded on their site but optional to be added in for a charge or included for free on Aggregators. Others the changes may be more fundamental with lower inner limits etc.
Finally with all these different introducers out there you get a real rats nests of T&Cs to unpick over exactly who the broker/ insurer has to pay in the event of a sale. Its not always as simple as the last person who the buyer visited via or the first introducer that lead to the quote the person bought (eg quote via Go Compare, click through from Quidco but use the Retrieve Quote and buy the GoCompare generated quote, who gets paid?). If these have been done poorly, or if the broker is small so not able to call the shots then they may end up paying both so in theory some may increase prices if multiple introducers start getting involved.0 -
£200 via gocompare. £350 when direct via quidco link.
Seems wrong to me that they can offer £65 then bump £150 onto the price. Surely the idea of cashback is that the companies pay the cashback sites to advertise their products and attract traffic and it costs them a small amount.
It just seems wrong that its being used as vehicle to make even more.
Must admit in the past with other insurance , I've done gocompare and found the cheapest. Then I go via quidco to get cashback and do a quote direct and its always been the same price. (and I get CB as a bonus).0 -

As I said, £65 is about the going rate for an aggregator commission last time I checked so go via Quidco or GC and they are paying out £65.
There are several reasons why the difference in price can occur, a lot of the time is simply differential pricing and different product/defaults.0 -

Are you able to save the quote obtained via GoCompare, then access the site via QuidCo and retrieve the saved quote?Stompa0

Pretty sure that won't work.
The quote via GoCompare will be tagged in some way with the affiliate as GoCompare which means GoCompare get the commission.
You won't get cashback via quidco if another party is getting commission. There is no way the insurer will pay out twice and you can be fairly sure that some effort has been put into the "tagging" process as commission is at stake.0 -
