Can you get a conservatory glass/Perspex roof that lets in light but not heat?
My friend has an expensive electric operated blind on hers which is always going wrong so I want to avoid one of those.
Thanks in anticipation of any ideas.

The high spec modern glass like Pilkington K does this to an extent, but depending on which way it faces you may still get roasted in summer0

GOOGLE ULTRAFRAME,& use that as a guide for you, they are far from the cheapest, but you can research.0 -
About 6 years ago we were building a conservatory and we were worried about heat, the salesman told us of a thick insulating perspex, it was 70mm thick if I remember and it worked, let in light and was good in the winter and summer but do not remember what it was called, we bought from the conservatory section in Leeks department store in Melksham in Wiltshire0

No it doesn't and it's neither modern or high spec !!!
Why post incorrect advice when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about ?0 -

Liz,
Yes you can get glass that does keep a percentage of heat out, one of the biggest sellers in the UK is a product called COOL LITE SKN174, this reduces heat transmittance by 59%.
This glass would be one pane of your DGU, the other normally being a Low E product such as Planitherm or Pilk's K.
Pilkington K is an old hard coat technology product and Planitherm is a better performing latest technology soft coat product, it also has less of a tint/haze to it.
Basically with a product that combined both the above you would have a roof that reflects a % of the heat from your heating back into your room but also reduces solar heat gain.
To confuse you more you can add self cleaning, colour tints and laminated to all of the above. (this is what i have in my roof but it is very expensive if you don't work in the industry).
I wont bore you with info about warm edge spacer's or Argon and Krypton gas :rotfl:
Never come across a perspex roof, you may mean Polycarbonate, you would never ever choose the latter if you've seen a conservatory with a glass roof or sat in a conservatory with a Polycarbonate roof whilst it's raining.
Let me know if you need any more help.0 -
