I sort of agree with the OP, but only when delivery is explicitly paid for. While it would be complicated to set up, there must be a business case for a retailer to offer delivery by a certain courier. I, for one, would happily pay a premium for delivery by DPD as opposed to myherpes, or worse, Amazon bloody logistics.

The cost of having multiple companies would be beyond simply programming the website and having a way to divide parcels but will also be loss of volume discounts they can get.

For SMEs then arguably this is possibly easier than massive companies with automated warehouse systems however many SMEs may be using a courier broker like MyParcelDelivery or Parcel2Go to tap into their volume discounting -v- buying direct from the couriers and so they may not know exact pricing but instead are ballparking and will simply select whoever is "best value" on the day.

The real issue is that many people will switch which company they buy from to save 50p. If this is going to drive up the price of every single delivery (which ultimately is reflected in the price irrespective of its implicit or explicit) then you'll lose business.

If you think there is a market that is willing to pay ~£3 more per order simply to get their choice of courier then start up your own businesses doing this. It gives you a USP and you'll just need to find a way of seeking out those that want that USP.

I don't think it would just be me? You are after all paying for a service so why shouldn't you as the buyer be offered at least clarity at the point of sale?

Because you are not paying enough, perhaps.

Considering Amazon use most of the available carriers what difference would naming them make ?

Because, generally, customers are stupid. They will listen to the odd horror story and decide that they don't want the same, despite there not really being an issue.

Most delivery companies work to approximately 97-99% success rate, but, like most on-line reviews, they only read the negatives.

The trouble is, Geerex, you are in the minority. The vast majority of consumers demand cheaper and cheaper delivery costs.
