Rights / moral question

Options
Hi

I recently went into a car parts place to get some parts that I had reserved to collect

One of the parts was incorrect and they took 40 minutes to pick the correct part from their warehouse. In the confusion the 2 guys there got their sites crossed and refunded me the incorrect part meaning the correct part was free. Should have been £100

Question is 2-fold

Legal where to I stand if they realise their error?
Morally what's right?

They messed up, kept me waiting for 40 minutes and were very disorganised. Should they take the hit and use it to better manage themselves?

For goodness sake, do you really need to ask a forum what the right thing to do is here?

Legally they have up to six years to pursue them for the money you owe them.

Morally - work it out yourself!

Only a troll would sign up just to ask a question about morality when the answer is obvious, so I'm calling the OP now.

The fact you are on here asking is not only morally wrong but apart from that knowingly taken advantage of an error is a criminal offence, similar to theft by finding.

Certainly not you. Get back in touch and tell them what happened.

So one guy refunded, you waited for the other guy to come back and left with what he had found. Knowing the sale had been rescinded and goods not yours. Isn't this theft? It's misappropriation if goods.

Whether they realise or not is anyones guess. Whether they'll trace it back to you we don't know. But as to the moral and legal aspects, I believe you now have your answer.

Ahh, I've said it before and I'll say it again.

First question on where to stand: in the dock, for theft.

Second question: hint - it's not theft.

OP to save face wait for your bank statement to arrive then contact them and say you've noticed that they refunded the item but didn't charge for the correct one.

That, at least, makes you look honest.
