I've applied for a clarity card today to take abroad. Everything was OK with the application, but the estimated credit limit said £1.00.

And stay within the limit of course
Best ring and ask them I think.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
I'll wait to see what comes through the post.
It was only to use in the states in emergencies, so it's of no hardship if they do issue a daft limit of £1.
Although I'm sure it would be a bit pointless on their part.0 -
You'll find that the min limited with most credit cards is 5000

It's a bug with the Lloyds banking group application system at the moment. I wouldn't worry. Give them a ring if you want to find out the limit.0 -
I was disappointed with the Clarity card when I recently (3 weeks ago) used it abroad to realise the exchange rate given was only €1.28, when the standard rate was €1.34. Never again, take cash.0

Or, alternatively, pay in Euros and don't get stung with dynamic currency conversion (DCC).Yorkshire_Woody wrote: »I was disappointed with the Clarity card when I recently (3 weeks ago) used it abroad to realise the exchange rate given was only €1.28, when the standard rate was €1.34. It would appear you let the overseas merchant, or bank if ATM withdrawals, do the conversion, not Halifax.0 -
ive never seen anything like that. Barclaycard firmly held my limit at £380 a few years ago, but £1:eek:.. it will arrive with £500 or so, i suspect.0

It's worse than you thought. Mastercard rate was €1.36+ to £1 three weeks ago. See https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/.
As others have mentioned, you probably paid in pounds and not Euros.
It's easy to mess up. I bought a coffee at Guangzhou airport in China two weeks ago. CNY78. I didn't realise at the time that would be £7.86!!! It's the most expensive coffee I've ever bought. Small, too; but pretty:
