Cordless Phone AC Adaptor overheating

I have a Philips DECT 221 Digital cordless phone. The AC Adaptor seems to get very hot if left on for even a short period of time. Anyone have any advice?

I suppose the obvious reply is only to turn the adaptor on for an hour or so after you have used the phone, then turn it off again. Think of all that electricity you'll save, not being turned into heat!

A rechargeable battery will lose a few % of charge per day, but that shouldn't be a great problem unless you leave the adaptor off for a month or so.

Because that's an excellent thing to do with a DECT cordless phone when the AC adapter powers the receiver and if you turn it off, you can't use the phone....
