It's ridiculous indeed.
OP please bear in mind that house prices in Manchester, West Midland and perhaps Leeds are not as cheap as you think. We are talking about the reasonable areas in those cities (not necessarily the most expensive ones).
I would probably consider the good advice in the other post :"Could you rent your place out for a couple years so you have the fall back if it does not work."0 -

Have you actually tried to get an IT job in Leeds? I understand that there is an over supply in the market and that rates have dropped dramatically. (of course depends what you actually do)June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
get the job first
rent then buy later0 -
We used to live in London and have recently relocated from Bath to York. We love it. We got a lot more house for our money or more specifically, the same size house for a tiny mortgage. 10 minute walk to the city centre and easy access to lots of countryside. It's brilliant. I read an article today that suggests that more and more people are doing exactly what you propose.
