MPs Call For Curbs on PPCs in Parliament

A lively debate, with Parking Eye coming in for heavy criticism from our elected representatives. A pity that Robert Goodwill keeps trotting out the DVLA party line about ATAs, Codes of Practice, and robust safeguards, but maybe Mr Pickles will take a different tack:

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

I note that Mr. Evans described PE's activities at one site as "a scam". He's protected by parliamentary privilege, but can we quote him I wonder?

  • I urge my hon. Friend the Member for Ribble Valley to discuss any concerns he has directly with the parking operator, and if he is not satisfied, with the accredited trade association. Providing them with details of any cases in which his constituents have experienced questionable actions or bad behaviour will allow the ATA to investigate and to take the necessary action.

    but the BPA say

The Approved Operator Scheme (AOS) and its Code of Practice was developed by the BPA to bring a degree of regulation to an industry without primary legislation. Regrettably as we are not a regulatory authority, we are not empowered to become involved in individual disputes between the motorist and the car park operator and have no authority to overturn an operator’s decision. Therefore, any action regarding your individual circumstances are out of our control and should be directed to the operator.

    catch 22 ?

do politicians actually know what they are spouting

Indeed Freddy. The BPA has fooled politicians into believing it is a regulator, whilst telling the complete opposite to anyone who actually asks it to do some regulating.

Yes, apart from the misplaced apostrophe in governments, and the use of a comma instead of an apostrophe in 'can't'.

If you live in a constituency that could swing a number of ways ( ooo, er misses ! ) then it's worth contacting your GE candidates to ask what their stance on parking on private land is. My candidates have just all received an email with links to this board, the link to last nights debate and evidence of DVLA selling data to corrupt companies.

Let's see what they come back with considering they want my vote.
