On ther login page for my MBNA account, it states that the account is temporarily suspended. There is no arrears and it was only noticed when I logged in to activate the replacement card (old one expired) today. There are no arrears and the statement issued shows an available balance and the online page shows none. Anybody any idea?

First thing, are you certain you're looking at the genuine site ? Check the address carefully, it's possible ( though unlikely ) that you've got some malware on your PC that's redirected you to a fake site.
Other than that, give them a call and ask them.0 -

The real MBNA website uses a memorable picture (chosen by the account holder when they setup the online account) to safe guard against fake MBNA websites. If this picture is not shown as soon as you enter your login credentials, then it may well be a fake website.0
