Delivery Query

One query about a delivery.
Not naming and shaming, but highlighting the problem.
Also I understand that most of the replies would be advice, not a full legal stand point (I have read the topic on MSE)
Background:
Our integrated fridge/freezer broke on morning of 8th March. Called a repair company in case it could be repaired.
They stated it could not be economically, which I had guessed at before they arrived, but needed to make sure. That company also do sales, so asked for a quote, and said they could usually deliver within a couple of days of the order raised.
Luckily the content of the freezer is in very kind neighbours freezers.
Most fridge items were not perishable, (luckily we had not been shopping the day before to put loads into it!). We have had to throw a few things out, but not a lot. Impact has been minimal to date.
The company quoted for a replacement on the 9th. I said we would look into it and get back to them.
We looked on line for the ones they quoted and others and saw what they offered was a little steep on price. As we called them out for a repair they take some money off when purchasing something new, it meant it came a little more competitive.
To go for the cheapest one we liked we would have had to wait 3-4 weeks for deliver as quoted on the websites, and that was similar for most fridge/freezers we looked at. We did not want to wait that long for delivery!
On Tuesday 10th I called the company back, and they stated they could get the new fridge/freezer to us for Saturday 14th; fitting and removal of the old one.
Other online companies stated delivery dates 16th or 20th March at very best.
I decided to order the new fridge/freezer on the afternoon of the 10th.
The company sent a photo of the credit card receipt and stated in their email that delivery would be on the 14th March between midday and 5pm.
On the 14th the sales man called at 0910 to say they would not be delivering as they had not received the item at their end. Stating they would get back to me with an update.
Not heard anything by about 1pm so called them back.
They stated their suppliers truck was involved in an accident on Friday 13th, and not going to deliver the item.
They would still try to work out the best solution etc. and get back with any update on the 14th.
On the 16th they called back.
The delivery vehicle was in an accident and goods damaged so that original one could not be used.
But they said they would not get themselves a replacement order until the 18th, so delivery to me would not be till the 19th.
I am lucky that I have flexi-time at work so can be home for about 3.30pm, so asked for delivery after that time on the 19th.
My wife is a teacher so no chance of missing work. In-laws available but want to be there myself to make sure they do what they need to do properly.
The company has been very apologetic all the time on the phone and know is it an issue not having a fridge or freezer.
Questions:
I have asked the company what compensation they could offer, as we are still without any fridge or freezer!
I stated we had an agreement with them to deliver on the stated day.
They said they would ask their supplier. Also as an accident with the truck it could be complicated, but at least they are asking the question.
They called back at 7pm on the 16th and said the supplier would not offer any compensation, but did say they could get it to us for the 18th now.
From my point of view they said they would deliver on a set date, so failed in that regard.
It is a more unique event of a vehicle accident of the supplier to them, but it has meant failure to deliver.
It sounds like they are looking at other suppliers to get the item to them, but why it takes 2-3 days for delivery is beyond me! (have supply chains be stretched so thin these days!)
I have been accommodating for a delivery time. I could take the day off work but do not want to do that.
Are they any other terms or phrases that would help in this situation?
Or, as I guess, there is not much that can now happen?
Not naming and shaming, but highlighting the problem.
