Selling my car
I have taken my car to a small 2nd hand car dealer whom I have known for many years and has bought a number of cars from me and my business.
He had agreed a price for my car but when I returned with the paperwork one of his employees tried to reduce the offer.
Does the original offer has any standing or form any sort of verbal contract?
Some advice would be great - thank you

Try and speak to the person who gave you the offer first, maybe they made a mistake.
He has as much obligation to buy it from you as you have to sell it to him = none."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
For a contract to be formed there needs to be an offer, acceptance and consideration (generally payment), though in most cases the promise of consideration is sufficient.
Was the offer actually accepted? Was there an agreed timescale to conclude the deal?
If you accepted it and said you'd bring the car round tomorrow and it is now tomorrow then you'd most likely have a formed contract. If you thanked him for the offer but you wanted to sleep on it then there is no contract and they are free to withdraw the offer.
The problem with verbal contracts, whilst as binding as any other form, is proving what was actually agreed.0 -
Hi Inside Insurance
Thank you - the offer was accepted on Friday evening and they kept the car until today for me to take the documents in which was when they tried to lower the price.
Thanks for your help.0
