Thanks Vortigern,
I found the IT Savings plans to be really good and they helped me to build decent stakes in my favourite ones, I think we paid about 50p per trade a few years ago whilst on those monthly plans.
Some of these also offer free transfers to other IT's within the same stable, a decent online portfolio tool and regular updates on their specific funds.0 -
If you can manage without an ISA wrapper look for the IT managers' savings plans. For example you can buy any of Baillie Gifford's ITs with no fee other than Stamp Duty. You can also reinvest dividends @ stamp duty only.
They would charge a fee to hold the shares in an ISA, and also to sell your shares.
Definitely worth a look at the savings plans if the manager offers it. Most are very good value - the exception is F&C that charges a flat rate annual fee and very high dealing charges for small amounts.
Some others just charge stamp duty and no other fees to hold.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Thanks. The savings plan idea is something i didn't know about. However, as a higher rate t/payer, I would need to hold in an ISA and, since you can't open more than one ISA a year, that would limit me to paying into one investment manager a year.
Having spent most of today looking into various options, I think I'll opt for td and bite the bullet on the dividend reinvestment charge for non-FTSE 350 companies. The 0.3% annual charge for funds is slightly higher than CSD but I wont have much of the ISA money in funds.0 -
Open an IT ISA. Scroll down to p 47.
