ISA newbie - where to start!

Hi All,

SO I've got a Santander 123 account with 20k in it. I'm just about to open a TSB Classic Plus and put 2k in that.

I've also got about 4k and my pay going into a standard HSBC account that gives no interest but requires nothing to keep it going. I've had it since I was a student and it's only recently I've realised I can make something of my money and opened the others... It seems smart to keep hold of it but I don't think I need to keep so much in it.

I'm now wondering about ISA's but because I'm freelance I'd like to keep things easy access as I don't really know exactly how much I'll make from month to month...

Any tips on where to start? Is an ISA the next step? I thought maybe the 4k in my HSBC account should go in one..?

What are your plans for your money? If you need it this side of 5 or so years, there's really no point in an ISA unless you have more than £50K.

Relevant current accounts are listed here, and there's a whole host of regular savings account that might be of use, too.

That's the problem. I don't know! Freelance means I might need it but if all goes well, I wont!

Surely, anywhere is better than 0% in my HSBC account though?
