We went twice last year and had a fantastic time.
The Tunisian dinar is a closed currency so you can only get in their and the FX rate is the same everywhere so you get the same rate at your hotel or a bank. Change up whatever money you need in small amounts as you are not allowed to take it our of the country.
There is now a departure visa tax - buy your stamp at your hotel as soon as you can and leave it in your passport for passport control to fix in.
Service was amazing at our hotel so we tipped well and apart from a few genuine fake converse (which are very good quality) was the only money we spent.

Few years since I went but we did have a great day out at Roman Ruin at El Jem:

Also a little hidden away just on outskirts of hammamet is a very pretty villa once used by Winston Churchill:

Keep an eye on FCO Travel Advice too!
If there's another incident anything like the massacre at the Bardo Museum 2 days ago, then I wouldn't be surprised if the FCO pull the plug on Tunisia.0 -

I bet they won't pull the plug to the northern tourist areas. Did they pull the plug on London, Madrid and Paris after issues there?0

Different ball-game when groups of tourists are the target.
MSC Cruises are no longer calling at Tunis for the rest of this year, and out of 20-odd ships due to call next month it'll be interesting to see how many change their itineraries.0 -
Agreed Pete.
It makes you wonder if the tour were followed right from the ship to the Bardo. Cruise ships are very aware of the potential risk to them, so it will be interesting to see how they tighten security further.0 -
although tunisia is lovely I found it a bit overwhelming when out of the resort especially in the shopping areas as it seem that they would sell their grandmother if they though you'b buy herproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0
