Electric shower wiring question

I currently have a Triton T80i electric shower which is an 8.5KWh model. It was fitted about 10years ago. I wanted to know whether I could change it for a bigger KWh rated model and if so what is the max I coulod go to?
Is there any way I could check this myself without calling out the experts? I currently have a 40A fuse fitted in my consumer unit which controls that circuit.
I don't really want to go down the route of changing all my wiring so will stick with the 8.5KWh if it turns out I would need to upgrade the wiring to get a better powered model.

You will need to check the gauge of the existing cable and the breaker will need to be uprated appropriately if the cable can supply a higher power shower.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

A 9.5kW shower would just about hit the limit for a 40A fuse or breaker.
But as others have said, you'd need to check if the cable is up to it. It can even make a difference how the cable is run. If it's covered in loft or wall insulation at some point, the cable has to be down-rated accordingly.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
My 9.5kw shower has 10mm2 cabling and a 32a fuse (should be 40a), however it works fine. It replaced a 10.5 kw one which used to trip for obvious reasons.
However its on a old wylex fuse board, when fuse brd gets changed i will have it moved to the 40a mcb.0
