Stamp Duty Calculation

Hi Sorry if this is a stupid question - How is stamp duty calculated? Ive read on other threads that its on the value of the property, not the amount it is sold for? Is this right? If so, who determines the value? thanks

If you want to sell to them. Then you could offer to pay the stamp duty for them. £1400 on £140k. This then becomes part of the legal side of the buying/selling and they pay the £140k, then your solicitors sort out the stamp duty being paid for them.

Depends how much the sale at that price is worth to you today.

As for value - invite 2-3 estate agents round and find out how much they say your house is worth in today's marketplace for a quick sale. Your posting (to me) reads as if you've been approached by somebody and haven't had it "valued".
