Advice on sealing a felt flat garage roof

Hi all,
Hoping that someone can point me in the right direction with this one. We have a large garage attached to our house which has a felt roof. During the past year, several leaks have emerged in certain areas (probably around seams) and at the edges where the garage meets the house.
I can'r afford to replace the roof so I was thinking that loads of bitumen paint might do the trick in several layers? Or at least give me more time to save to do it properly?
Does anyone have any alternative suggestions for a fix?
Thanks all

I think fibre glassing is the way to go"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -
Bitumen paint is a cheap & cheerful fix - I did exactly the same many years ago in my old house. It's definitely not a permanent solution, but it lasted me a good 2 or 3 years until I got round to having it re-roofed properly. I just bought a big drum of the stuff from Wickes, cost about 20 quid or so if I remember correctly, poured it on and spread it over with a yard broom.0
