Hi everyone, I have a sneaky feeling that a local charity is getting, how should I say? RIPPED OFF!
They gave permission and funds for a website to be built to promote themselves, and show results etc. Now I reg'd the name they thought they had payed for (IN NOVEMBER 06) yesterday, I bought it as a donation and will run it voluntarily, I have a basic site and was about to publish when i had the "hold off for a bit" message from a member of the committee. I have tried to tell them, that if this so called website is being built, the one they are paying for, ask for a progres report, or one of them to go around and see it, but I just want some basic time figures for any websites you have published, I average 2wks for basic, using templates n things.
What's your average?

Its all in the skill of the developer, I know a person that has been doing websites for years and can get a basic site done from start to finish in less than a day if all the tesxt etc is in place ie the customer has an idea of what they want to go on the site, images etc. The guy can also knock up totally custom online holiday/travel agency websites with online booking sections in less than a week again if the customer has an idea of what they want it to look like.
He hates being asked to create a website then not being given any input to what they want on it he then gets in to a lot of going backwards and forwards between the customer and makeing changes getting them ok'ed then the customer comes up with new ideas wants changes to be made. the whole process can take months. Some customers never seem satified with the result and it is all down to not knowning what they want in the first place.
So if your in a rush for it to be done make sure you know what is going on it and any developer worth his salt should have it done with a week even allowing for a few problems.0 -
Thanks Little John, as I suspected, this person has obviously been stringing this club along! The commitee hasn't heard anything of the site since funds were released! I shall quote your reply to one of them, if that is ok with you, I'll ANON it for you.Sig ah Sig Ahhh0

It isnt 100% certain he is pulling a fast one, how complex is the site? what is he chargeing? a basic site shouldnt cost much over £200-£300 if it is done well. Is he a "bedroom" designer doing it as a hobby/favour or working full time in web developement? has he got other work he can show off with? if he is employed as a developer then he should be fairly quick and good at what he does, a bedroom developer normally takes a lot longer and the results can be hit and miss as they dont normally have a clue. Im a bedroom developer I do it by the seat of my pants in the hope that the outcome is pretty good and looks ok. It normally takes me a few days to come up with somthing basic.0
