Need new oven - with option to turn fan off - recommendations?

I really need a new single oven should be electric and ideally brown or black colour but most important is ability to switch fan on or off. Without entering into a debate, I do a lot of baking and prefer to do this in a non fan oven.

I went into Curry's at the weekend and they said they did not stock any electric ovens where the fan could optionally be switched off. I do not really believe this but was not inclined to read all the individual brochures to find out!

Can anyone recommend a single electric oven (ideally multi function) with optional fan function.? Budget Up to around £800.

    Hi Littlerock

You probably baffled the poor Curry's salesperson with using terminology that they just didn't understand!

This is very simple, you need a Multifunction oven. This means you can cook using different methods of heating, fan heat will always be the primary one, then conventional heat which is an element in the roof and another in the floor of the oven.

You are also perfectly right in thinking that a DECENT multifunction electric oven will do a better job of baking on the conventional heat setting rather than fan heat. The fan always produces a certain amount of unevenness, whereas conventional heat in a decent oven will give you perfectly even temperature across a shelf.

You have quite a healthy budget so my recommendation would ideally be go with Miele, but this would be a non-pyrolytic one whereas a Siemens oven for £800 would be with pyrolytic cleaning.

    Good luck

You cannot go wrong with a Neff... i love mine it is multi function and it's what they use on the Great British Bake off :),

...you did not specify if you want a built in/under oven or a standalone one.

You can usually tell which ovens allow you to turn the fan on/off just by looking at them - they usually have a knob you can turn to different settings with a fan symbol looking like a friendly nuclear warning symbol next to the settings where the fan kicks in.

I used to have a Smeg oven with this function - was about 10 years ago now but I imagine their newer models might still have it.

My Neff built-in oven has a number of settings, some of which use the fan and some of which don't. The ones that use the fan have a handy fan symbol next to them.

It also has pyrolytic cleaning, which is awesome - just wipe down, run the cleaning program, then wipe down again. Gets it beautifully clean without needing any nasty chemicals.

Hotpoint Luce multifunction double ovens certainly allow this - got a missus who likes to bake, and a Hotpoint Luce double oven (exact model not on hand at present). The former is very happy with the latter !

My AEG combined oven/grill has a whole raft of options - oven with or without fan, top heat only, bottom heat only, and grill with or without fan. It's also got a defrost mode, but I have no idea what that does!
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
