New UPV Sash windows drafty

Hi everyone - we're having problems and hope you can help.
We're putting new windows in and we've noticed that when its windy there's a massive draft blowing up through the window - where the upper and lower sashes meet in the runners. I have no idea about windows so what could be the cause and how to fix it?

We've had a lot of problems with the guy we've employed to do this - we originally ordered 28mm kommerling sash and before we had chance to check four of the old windows had been ripped out - and it turned out that the ones that had arrived were 24mm "eco-slide" and had to be fitted oh and the bars are the wrong style but he's ordered new glass with the correct Georgian style trims - no cost.

Should give him a chance to make good and solve the drafts, and of course demand a hefty discount or - Should we stop the work and look for a new company? It seems one problem after another..... Any advise please.....

The "meeting rails" (where the top sash meets the bottom sash) run your hand long the ouside of the lower sash meeting rail and see if there is a Brush pile draught stripped fitted. I make wooden windows but I would think the Upvc ones have a similar draught excluder fitted to the meeting rails. It may be that the brush pile is missing ,if so it should be easy enough to slide it in.

If its not that then I'm sure the Upvc guys on here will be able to help you.. The fitter doesn't sound like he is on the ball with the spec so he may not be great at fitting either.
  • Yep the guy running the show seemed ok but has really thown a spanner in the works - the guy doing the fitting seems to know what he's doing but then I have no idea what to look for.... There are fuzzy strips on the sides. We're really in a quandry are these windows any good? will they be draft free? do we throw everything out and start again?
any experienced voices are most welcome....

new sash windows should not have draughts but poorly fitted they certainly will. my company posted a 20 year old video on how to fit plastic sash windows and the problems I will dm you with the details so that I am not accused of pushing products.
Buying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run.
