Financial links on credit score

I'm on Noddle- I know the actual number on credit scores is largely made up, but it is incredibly low (543) and I can't work out why. I have had debt and payday loans in the past, but I have been settled on everything for at least a year (on the payday loans, much longer on everything else) and I've closed down all unused accounts and am registered on the electoral roll etc so I cannot work it out.

The only anomaly is that I appear to be financially linked to two people that I used to live with 5 years ago when we all had our name on the same British Gas bill. I fell out with the two people in question a while back and haven't spoken to them for years. One of the two people in question is in a mountain of debt, so I imagine her credit score is really bad- could this be effecting mine somehow? We didn't share a credit card or an account, just had our names on the same British Gas bill, I don't know if this counts as a financial connection?

My husband and I are going to be trying to get a mortgage this year so I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row first, and at the moment I don't see how we'd get one (although we earn well and have a large deposit saved).

You did have a financial connection with the British Gas bill. If she is in a mountain of debt and not keeping up her repayments then this could be affecting your score if they still have you associated.

I would write to all three CRAs with a notice of disassociation stating you are not financially linked.

    Good luck.
  • Thank you for your help, I have asked Noddle to remove them already.

I have just checked Equifax and weirdly they are not showing up as a financial connection on there?

I notice that most forms for disassociation require you to put their current address- what if you have no idea because you haven't spoken to them for years?!

They may not show on other reports if British Gas do not report to those agencies. Always best to check all three.

If you don't know the addresses I would just put current address as unknown.

    Good luck.

My noddle score is 4/5 (last month it was 5/5 but I know why it's dropped).

You must have bought the 543 number?...Noddle Improve? If so, do yourself a favour and stop parting with money for such numbers!

I agree with Yorkshireboy - you should NEVER be paying anything more than your £2 statutory report.

It is the information in the report that is crucial and what any lender will be assessing you against. The numbers these agencies attached to these reports are meaningless. The agencies rely on you becoming obsessed with these numbers going up and down to keep you parting with your hard earned cash.

    Good luck.
