Package Holidays

  • Can someone explain what's the difference between booking a package holiday (Thomas Cook) & booking flight / hotel / transfer (separately) (On the beach)

Also, what's the advantages / disadvantages between the two

Its been a really hot topic last few years

Having looked into this and priced up so many options, firstly for me, then for other people as well just as a hobby I worked out that DIY is about 20-50% cheaper on the whole for the same holiday the package company offers, and that is about 91% of the time, there have certainly been times the travel agent option is cheaper and you should check both.

The thing with DIY is what will you trade on, main 3 are
    - will you go indirect ( take 2 flights on a connection )
    - will you / can you go and return on a midweek day
    - will you stay in a hotel that is cheaper but may not have some things eg not onsite at Disney or doesn't have 2 pools, or doesn't have shuttle from airport.

Once you start to build in what you will trade on and what you wont the savings are amazing
