Tesco Marketing Texts

On holiday in USA I was woken up with a marketing text message. If you don't want text messages call XXX ........ which only works while in UK. Quite irritating, particularly as I had already specified no marketing in my Tesco preferences :(

I go to Tesco web site and send a message asking them to stop sending marketing text.

They send me a reply to my registered e mail address, we can help blah de blah, but you must first confirm your security details.

I am in USA and don't have this to hand. I have given my name address telephone number and you are contacting me on my registered e mail address. I don't understand why you need ME to provide security data before you correct your error, please stop sending text messages.

We cannot help unless you provide security in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

What a crock, they are now misquoting legislation as an excuse for ignoring my request

Thanks for reading, one angry Tesco customer

Maybe worth just having your phone on silent while you are sleeping. Concentrate on enjoying your holiday in the USA and sort it out when you get home.

I would not like to have my phone off in case of an emergency, e.g. my mother is aged 91. Happy mum's day.

Thanks for your comments guys. I have put a comment on Tesco Facebook page and I wonder how long it will be before they delete it?

I just wanted to vent and surprisingly feel much better now. In the scheme of things this is a very small irritation and life is too short to worry about this.

My advise would be to go on the Tesco Website - check both the My Account in the Grocery section, and also My Clubcard Account in the Clubcard section. In the latter you may have your 'mobile' as the preferred channel of contact - maybe better to amend that to 'post'. They do 'security info' to confirm it is 'you' - as opposed to someone saying so - when you went to their website - did you logon? Don't tell them your password, merely by logging on yourself you'll be better able to change it.

I would have thought registering for no marketing messages on my mobile phone account was sufficient? If not, I would have thought the jobsworth at Tesco would do whatever to ensure all texts were stopped in response to my request.

On my return to UK I shall do as you suggest.

PS: Yes I logged on and sent a PM from my Tesco mobile account. They responded to my registered e mail account. I find the notion that someone would steal my mobile, then hack my Tesco and e mail accounts just to ask Tesco to stop sending marketing text messages mildly amusing.

That probably wouldn't help as it's not "tsesco" that's the issue.

But what were the 'Marketing Messages' did they relate to your 'phone, or were they 'Grocery' 'Direct' or 'Clubcard' - the first & last have separate preference settings.
