Why did A&L decline my business bank account application?

After nearly 3 weeks of silence, Alliance and Leicester have written to me declining my application for a new business bank account for my new limited company. The company has just formed, has no trading history and anticipates a fairly small turn-over (I'm going to run it in addition to the day job) which I understand isn't exactly going to wow anyone, but I don't want any credit or complex facilities... just a basic account I can make BACs payments into and out of...

The directors are normally credit scored. Would there be something there to scare the bank off?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

No bad debts or missed payments on unsecured lending which is a few £000s on a credit card (0% BT) that I'm paying off. Perhaps I have too much available credit - that's what an Experian check said some time back? (and I am closing a few unused CCs down...)0

Personally, I would be grateful - my father switched his business account to them and A&L were terrible (incuding their business internet banking) - and introduced charges for an account which was supposed to be 'free'.
He soon changed back to his old bank (HSBC in his case).
Someone else also posted here some time ago about problems opening an A&L account.
My advice is to get a business account with a 'proper' bank.
For instance:
HSBC
Natwest
or perhaps Abbey National

Thanks all - I do my personal banking with HSBC so I might go and talk to them face-to-face about an account.0
