Halal beef very cheap, should I be worried?

We should all be worried about this form of slaughter .....
That was what I thought...
Isnt it the case that animals killed for meat are stunned before slaughtering - but halal ones aren't??
Helping to fuel the demand for animals killed that way and thus ensuring a supply of it is available would tend imo over time to lead to suppliers swopping from ordinary meat to halal meat and thus making it more difficult for people to source ordinary meat.
I do recall reading about a school where everyones school dinners are made with halal meat - even if that isn't the way they personally eat:eek: - presumably because the school didn't want to go to the trouble of sourcing meat from normal sources and meat from halal sources and thought "Well...only one lot will shout about it...so we'll make sure they are happy first".0 -
yes, thank you very much for your suggestions. I meant to ask him, but honestly after the first bite, I ended up throwing it in the bin. It was looking like a good fillet, but the consistence (basically rubber and I like it very rare) and taste was horrible.
I haven't seen any one eating Halal beef cook the fillet rare or medium (like how the English do the steaks). They are usually cooked in stews, stir frys or curry. Probably that is the reason for them being rubbery in the method you do? My DH does like steaks occasionally and then he always gets it from some supermarkets otherwise we buy all our meat from the local Asian butchers. I am not any expert on meat. DH is/was a chef and he is keen on what kind of meat, source and quality.SPC 08 - #452 - £415

My DD often comes home asking me if she should go for the Vegetarian option or the Halal option at school. I usually say none of them. Eat what you like.
The honest answer should have been "We should be vegetarians (we are hindus), but we are not. We don't need to be eating Halal, but probably are" :rotfl:SPC 08 - #452 - £415

I must admit that was my first thought when I read about that school - ie that if I'd had any children attending school meals there then they would have just been told they would be having vegetarian meals on schooldays. Obviously accompanied by the explanation as to why it was necessary to avoid halal meat and an explanation of the normal British procedure for killing animals to eat.0
