Regular Vehicle Air Con Servicing ?
My 2001 VW Caravelle has just developed what I can describe as a "big end knock" when I turn the AC on.
Having spent hours googleing in an attempt to find a MSE solution I have ended up booking it in at VW on monday for a £1000+ operation that involves replacing the compressor/dryer etc.
Trouble is I'm not convinced it needs it ! The guy at the MOT station said that a evacuate/recharge might fix it but he was unsure, personally I would rather pay £90 for this than its alternative; are there any AC experts out there ? The AC still blows cold but what a racket it sound like its about to come through the bonnet.
Apparently you are supposed to have a separate AC service every two years to disinfect/recharge the system; I wonder how many other MSErs do this ?
But I would have thought £70 was alot better than the alternative.
PS AC service was never mentioned at any of my VW services

it sounds more like the AC pump! you can pick up a good 2nd hand pump for about £100. if you don't know what you are doing a good garage will fit it for you. you would still have to refill the AC unit around £70 plus labour.0

Yes try an independant air con firm rather that the rip off VW dealer! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
