On the electoral roll twice

Eek! I'm on the electoral roll twice and probably have been for ages. A while ago I changed my name on the electoral roll to match the name all my accounts are under. For years I've just used the last part of my double barrelled surname but everything has to be in your 'official' name these days so I wanted things to match. Anyway, both names are now on the roll. I'm going to ring them on Monday to fix the roll, but I wondered if there might be implications for upcoming credit applications. I'm also a bit worried it might look like I'm trying to do something fraudulent. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

As long as you don't have hidden adverse credit under the second name, I can't see it being an issue.

It's not illegal to be on the electoral roll twice. It is, of course, illegal to vote twice. This shouldn't affect your forthcoming application - you give them your name, and it appears on the register - no problem.

Thanks both. I suppose what worries me most is that it might look as if I've only been the electoral roll since I changed the name.

You must have known that you registered twice. As registering requires a declaration on an annual basis.

I didn't register twice. I updated my details on the gov.uk site. I got a letter this week checking that the info for my property is correct and I'm shown twice. Once with the double-barrelled name and once with just the second part.

Might it just take a while to update and perhaps they'll remove your original entry? It took 5 months after I last moved until I showed as on the electoral roll according to noddle...

The Electoral Commissions stance on two homes is this -:
    http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/faq/voting-and-registration/i-have-two-homes.-can-i-register-to-vote-at-both-addresses

This is awayfrom the OP's topic but it answers the title of the question where two residences are involved.
If in doubt consult with your local Electoral Registration Office.
