Underpinning and signoff

Hello all,

A family friend is selling her house, and in the spirit of honesty has declared an old subsidence issue. The one instance happened over 15 years ago, and was due (according to her memory) to a tree that had to be removed, and then a corner of the house had to be underpinned. It was all done via an insurance claim, and handled by the insurance company. Her records are minimal.

The buyer's solicitors are asking for the council signoff on the underpinning that was done - she has no clue if this was obtained, or even necessary.

Does anyone know how this works? As she is getting on and can't remember exactly where was underpinned, and it was so long ago, is it even possible to get this now?

How does she satisfy her buyers?

    get her solicitor to write and explain the work was undertaken and paid for by the insurance company (giving details as far as possible) and the seller has no further records, the underpinning might not even have required building control approval, tho if it did, its likely that the council will have a record on file
