Changing housing assoc. can I hold onto my secure tenancy?

Hope there is someone out there that knows more about this than me.
I have finally got a transfer from my flat and been offered a house with another housing association.
I currently have secured tenancy and I am being offered assured tenancy. From the little I know the only difference is that rent increases must be assesed by a fair rent panel with secured tenancy whereas with assured they must be below the market rent, but there is no independant body assesing wether the rent is fair or not.
Are there any other diffences I should know about? and is my rent likely to be cheaper if I can hold onto my secured status?
I have been in this flat for 18 years and on the transfer list for 6 so I am well chuffed about getting out, hopefully we will have a late summer so I can enjoy playing with the kids in the garden:D
