Argos Pet Insurance Premium hike

  • I don't think anything will change but I will be voicing my complaint to Argos. My dog has an ongoing condition which will get worse as she gets older. I was paying £57 per month and now Argos is asking for £90.63 pm. A total of £1087.62 per year. She had more claims (things not relating to the ongoing condition, single incidents) in 2013-14 than in 2014-15 yet it has gone up in price a lot more. There was only her ongoing condition in 2014-15. She has just turned eight so I guess that contributes to the price hike.
I expected there to be a price hike but not £33 pm more!

The tablets my dog has comes to £276.92 per year (not inc. prescription). I feel like getting these tablets myself and leaving Argos. But there's always that what if something happens in the future. These insurance companies know we love our dogs and take advantage of that.

Is there any point in contacting the financial ombudsman?

I say go for it. If you don't try you won't get anywhere, and with a try you may get somewhere :)

I've recently posted a similar story... I'm with Animal Friends and have a 10yo Cav with 4 years cancer history... Premium gone from £84pm to £320pm!! Condition limit is £2k so it was a no brainer to have to not renew.
I was advised on here to be careful switching suppliers on my other dog out of principal, (so you are over a barrel really) as anything on the vet record can count as a pre existing condition, even if you've not claimed!
I'm too nervous to self insure, and to be fair, it's been worthwhile over the years, but I don't trust any insurer the more I hear :(

Do dispute it though, is worth one call! Good luck!

Zara's (Argos Platinum so 7k per year life time cover) insurance just went up from £108 per month to £141.00 per month.

Of course still keeping it as at this point her tablets alone (Onsior, Gabapentin I order online but Apoquel is impossible to get online so getting from the vets plus the powder she takes with her food only again from the vets) are costing me £250.00 per month so insurance will cover that and way more - if needed.
