Killing time at Gatwick Airport.

We are returning from a transatlantic flight to Gatwick at 9.30 a.m. on a Sunday and our connecting flight is not until eight o clock at night.
Short of going to London for the day, has anyone any suggestions as to how to pass the time?
I have enquired about using the Executives Lounge but there is a maximum time allowed of three hours at a cost of £36

You never know your flight in might be dalayed! lol
I wouldn't stray too faw from the airport imagine if their was a major incident that stopped you getting back for your flight. I don't know what it's like but why not just stay local and go into Crawley!!!.....0 -

True, but Brighton is not far and is a lot more fun than Crawley.
Also, look at the 'hotels' section on ebay. Bargains near Gatwick are often offered there, and that might be a good way to catch up on sleep after your flight.0 -
You could always try some r & r and the pod hotel http://www.yotel.com
Inside the south terminal, not to far to crawl after a sweaty longhaul flight.Free wifi too....0 -
Has anyone tried the Yotel?!Gone ... or have I?0

Gatwick zoo is close by and nice depending on the weather-otherwise personally I'd hop on a train to Croydon (15 mins) . Lots of shops, a nice free museum and plenty of eating choices for a lot less than you'd spend stuck in the terminal. Crawley is close -you could just hop on a bus (assuming no luggage) cheap places to eat, go bowling or to the cinema, more shopping.
London is certainly do-able you could walk up to Buckingham Palace for the changing of the Guard and then on to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery if you're loking for free stuff to do-otherwise hop on a tube at Victoria and go down to the museums which are also free.
Don't forget that after 9.30am you can buy a cheap day return Gatwick to Victoria and that the Gatwick Express is far more expensive than the conventional trains and takes only 10 mins less.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Go to Brighton the Gatwick Express gets there in 20 mins...trains to and from Brighton-Gatwick are frequent throughout the day...and visitbrigton.com (http://www.visitbrighton.com/bs/thedms.asp?dms=5¶m1=Special+Offers¶m2=Search+listings&set=0&campaign=46) have loads of family friendly offers on their website...the majority are hotel offers, but there are a few restaurant discounts, and a Sea Life and Brighton Pavilion offer.
