Also don't worry too much about your rent date of 20th. For example if you give your notice on the 25th, they will pro-rata your rent to suit
I've never heard of any UK landlord doing this. I realise they could, but why should they?[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

Again:
* Ending/renewing an AST: what happens when a fixed term ends? How can a LL or tenant end a tenancy? What is a periodic tenancy?0 -
Yeah, don't hand your notice in until you've got firm dates. As the vendor of some buyers who decided to hand their notice in early, I can speak to the fact that it's a really bad idea. There's loads of potential delays in house purchasing. Don't add making yourselves intentionally homeless to the list of possible problems!Rule 7: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it.

Just to add to the general opinion-DON'T give your notice until exchange. My daughter gave notice, moved in with her sister for supposedly a week or two before Christmas, then the sale fell through at the very last minute due to lease issues. Her and her boyfriend ended up in separate houses, (he was at his mothers) for ages. They split up recently, not due to the house sale but because he's a !!!!!!, so all good in the end!! I'm really glad the sale fell through, would have been a nightmare if they'd split up after buying it. However, my daughter is now living in her sister's house far longer than she would have wanted. I told her time and again not to give in notice on her flat, but she didn't listen. Good luck with your sale.0
