Dual fuel cooker - can I connect electrics and do the gas connection later?

We're getting a new freestanding dual fuel cooker delivered this afternoon - electric oven and grill and gas hob. Unfortunately the gas engineer we'd lined up to do the connection has just called to say he won't be able to do it this afternoon as planned. This means we would be without a cooker all weekend. Is there any reason why we couldn't connect the electricity so that we can use the oven/grill, while leaving the gas hob disconnected?

None I can think of, if you are careful.

I'd disconnect it before the gas technician does turn-up in case he's a 'jobsworth' type.
