High electricity consumption

Hi

I used to have my electrictity with powergen. I changed suppliers in october when I moved from powergen I was paying about £35 a month and when I left I did not owe them any money (well they didnt ask me for any)
I am now with atlantic and since october they calculated my monthly payments should be £18 who am I to argue they know best. At my last bill I owed an extra £300 and this bill was £191 obviously causing a shortfall. I now have to pay £100 a month to pay for electric I will use approx £75 and £25 towards the money I owe. So what changed?? I have gas central heating and hot water so its not that. I did change from a gas oven to electric which is not used excessively not even everyday (hob is still gas) I had a new light fitting in kitchen spotlights and a dishwasher. The rest of my house has energy saving bulbs. Do you think my bill sounds too high? nothing else changed Ive always had 3 pc's, tumble dryer, washing maching ect ect.

Firstly you have fallen into the common trap of think that a lower direct debit payment = smaller bills.

Is your last bill a 'catch up' bill from previous underestimated readings, or for a period longer than a quarter, thus explaining the high amount?

Based on the information you have provided, over the past 10 months you have used an average of #48 per month. If you were paying #35 before, #48 wouldn't seem unlikely considering electricity prices rose significantly last winter and you have additional electrical appliances. Also will you be getting an annual rebate in the next few months?

Talking of high electrical consumption in terms of DD payments is pretty meaningless. If you pay £1 a month or £100 a month your bills are still exactly the same and based on the kWh you use.

If you post how many kWh you have used since October we can tell you if it is high consumption or not; the average is 3,300kWh a year.

LCD doesn't use much electricity. That's why calculators went from being LED to LCD - and calculator batteries last forever.
