Hi this is my first post. I received the barclaycard initial about 7 months ago with a limit of £150. I have heavily used it to around £500 per month paid off each time it neared it's limit, during the first month however I used contactless which doesn't show on the account and accidentally went over limit and was charged for the pleasure.
Around 3 months into having the card my limit was increased to 750 which I have also used heavily to around £2000 per month, again paying back weekly or when hit near limit. Never been over limit since first month, and after reading posts on upgrades I called today to upgrade and was offered the platinum, reward and cashback cards. I have opted for the cashback card for 0.5% using visa and 1% using Amex.
I could not see this on the website but it has no fee and could save me £'s.
I have 3 defaults totalling £1000 unpaid, and for what it's worth an experian credit rating of 370. My income is 20k per annum. (ps I applied for the initial card and was declined, then used the experian credit matcher a few weeks later and was accepted, with no credit search showing on experian)

I also have an aqua reward card 0.5%cashback with a cl of £250 applied through experian again a few months after barclaycard and will not budge on the credit limit. Have opted to leave the card open and not use to help the utilisation % of credit cards until my next barclaycard limit increase due next month. Hope this helps some people as this site has helped me out no end.
  • Cool story, what's your question though bro?

I called them to close the card, because the limit was only 250 pounds and never increased since then.

I've always wondered how the credit card companies decide on if they should increase credit limits or not. I've had my credit card with barclaycard for 13 month and they've increased my limit from £250 to £4000 in that time!

I would hold onto the card and eventually they will probably increase the limit.

Shame really, you could've upgraded to the cashback card that they do.

I think the offers you will get will be exactly the same. Hopefully I'm wrong though :)

Are you getting 6.9% life of balance transfer offers??

Yeah, could you not call Barclaycard back and upgrade to the cashback instead, at least you'll have that extra perk :)

Have you tried requesting a credit limit increase on mybarclaycard online? or by calling Barclaycard?

I got a barclaycard initial in nov 2014 with a credit limit of £800
I use it every week for bits and pieces and internet shopping etc
Ive gone over the limit 2 times since nov .
By accident when interest has been added to account and its creeped over the £800 .

I asked for an increase about 2 months ago and got refused
I went to barclays and paid off £600 last monday i then went to the barclays web page and requested an increase to £2000 and they increased it straight away no problem .
Im wondering wether or not i should have asked for a higher limit or even a lower apr ?

My equifax score was around 340 in nov and noticed that my score had gone back down to poor in the low 300's but hopefully now i have a higher limit it will now increase as i doubt ill go to the 2k within any given period unless i desperately need to .

I was offered an barclaycard initial last October, rather suprisingly as my credit history is less than perfect. I do bank with barclays and have my salary paid into the account, that's the only thing I can think that made them do it. Was with £250 credit limit. They contacted me 6 months later and increased it to £350. Having just seen this thread I just entered in an upgrade amount of £700 and it went through straight away. still on the appauling 34.9%APR however when I rang them and asked to reduce it they said they would give me 0% on transfers for 12 months or they will look to reduce it in 12 months. they've been suprisingly fair, I don't think anyone else would touch me with a barge pole.
