Switching - does the old account automatically close?

My switch day is today.
Yesterday I looked online and saw that the balance from my old account had moved across into my new one.
However, today I can still log onto my old account. It isn't closed, or at least it yet.

Assuming you used the current account switching service, then the old account will be closed for you

I switched from Barclays and was told I would still be able to log into online banking after the account was closed (which was the case). This is because of the agreement to forward any payments made into the old account to the new account for 1 year. Hence the old account is still "open" in some way. Might vary by bank of course.0 -
To the last poster ....
If this is the case think it must almost be peculiar to Barclays
Have experience of switching from Santander, Nat West, Lloyds, Nationwide and in all cases accounts have disappeared from online banking the day after switch......0 -

Why would you want to log into the old account - there will be nothing to see and nothing to do. The redirection of any incoming payments happens under the covers, and no transactions can be carried out any longer by the account holder.
I could understand if they said they let you have access to your online statements for 1 year after closure but that's not the reason you gave.0
