Payment made to closed bank account

Hi,
I hope there is someone who will be able to help. I acknowledge this was my silly mistake to begin with but I discovered I'd paid amost a years worth of extra payments to my Dell account.
For some unknown reason I thought the finance agreement for my Dell computer was over 5 years but was in fact 4 years. I had difficulty contacting the correct department to deal with my query as Dell no longer offer finance and out sourced it.
Finly I contacted to correct department which was CIT who agreed to reimburse me.
When finally payment was made they paid it into an old closed bank account. This was not where the last 12 months of payments came from. They did not check they had the correct details before paying this back and I did think they were sending a cheque as they stated it would take 15 days!
On informing them straight away of their error I had no reply. I then sent another E-mail which stated they were sorry for late reply but I would need to send them the payment back first before they can pay it into the correct account!!
If I had access to the money I wouldn't need to send it back to them for them to send it back to me.
Is there anything I can do to sort this out?
Kind regards
Emma Virgilio

You were sent?...I then sent another E-mail which stated they were sorry for late reply but I would need to send them the payment back first before they can pay it into the correct account!!
They owe you. If the money isn't redirected to your new account soon, send them a Letter Before Action giving them, say, 10 days to pay to the correct account. If they fail, submit a claim to the Small Claims CourtIf I had access to the money I wouldn't need to send it back to them for them to send it back to me.

If the account the money was sent to is fully closed, then it will be returned by the bank
(If you closed your account using the switching service, payments will automatically flow through to your new account for 13 months)
Just let the payer have the correct bank details and they can resend the money to the correct account if it is returned.0
