Halifax Bank - NATO phonetic alphabet

Don't know if it's just on the freephone number, but the Halifax Bank help line require your memorable information spoken in the NATO phonetic alphabet. The customer service seemed surprised when I got through, she said you have passed security and I can now deal with your call.

Good job I've got a printed card handy at home with the NATO phonetic alphabet - the computer was very strict about pronunciation as well:eek:

Never heard of this requirement before.

But I do think that everyone should know the NATO alphabet off by heart.

No wonder she was surprised, you were probably the first customer all week that passed security!:rotfl:

Improvement on the NATO phonetic alphabet

Could your heartbeat replace your bank Pin? Halifax trials technology that identifies customers by their pulse - Customers put on a wrist band that measures their unique heartbeat rhythm while wearing the band, customers are able to access their online banking without having to enter pin numbers or passwords.
Anyone who banks online will know how difficult it can sometimes be to remember multiple passwords and pin numbers on a daily basis.

Halifax believes it could have a solution: a wristband that identifies customers by their heartbeat. Apparently everyone has a unique heart rhythm, which can be used to identify us much in the same way as fingerprints.

Correct pronunciation for the NATO phonetic alphabet can depend on accent, too.

I'd rather press buttons than conform to some accent.

The NATO code was especially designed to not be made ambiguous by accent.

Unfortunately it didn't anticipate dim-wits who don't recognise that Quebec when used as a NATO phonetic should ALWAYS be pronounced KWEBEC :)
