Im going to pay the tax, and then send off the V5C document. That should be me legal again.

Don't do it that way round, when the DVLA process the change of registered keeper, any current tax will be cancelled and a refund sent to the previous registered keeper.

According to the first post, the car was purchased a year ago and came with 6 months tax. It has not been taxed or SORN'd for around 6 months.

My mistake. I thought you had to back-pay taxes owed.
Oh that might be coming! Depends what DVLA do next!

Very good point. I just read up on it. "Any remaining road tax will not transfer to the new owner with the vehicle"

    Big thanks for mentioning that.:T

That won't make any difference to the OP at this stage, if it is taxed now, it will be in the name of the current registered keeper and will be cancelled when the DVLA process the change of keeper.

Not if you put the reference number from the new keeper supplement in when you tax it. Just done it twice myself recently with no problems.
