Solar Quote opinions

After taking advice on here I looked on eb$y and contacted one of the suppliers listed there. I was given this quote.

We could supply & install the following 4kWp Solar PV systems;

14 x Yingli 275W solar panels (3.85kW system)
1 x Samil Solar River 4500TL-D inverter
1 x Schletter roof mounting kit (layout tbc)
1 x All cables, clips, isolators
1 x Full MCS / NICEIC installation including completion of all the paperwork and registrations
£4,795 inc VAT

As above but using 14 x Seraphim 285W solar panels for £4,895 inc VAT (3.99kW system)

As above but using 14 x LG 280W (Black frame) solar panels for £4,995 inc VAT (3.92kW system)

Optional Extras
SMA Sunny Boy 4000TL Inverter - £245 inc VAT
Power One Aurora 4.2S Inverter - £195 inc VAT
Wireless Display - £125 inc VAT
iBoost Immersion Control Unit - £395 inc VAT
APEX Voltage Optimisation Unit - £395 inc VAT

I was thinking of going for the Seraphim with an iBoost and wireless display. Not bothered about voltage optimisation but was unsure what the difference in inverters was and wondered if all you out there could give me some advice.

Thanks in advance

Think we can safely say that £5k is well and truly a thing of the past for a 4kWp system

As for your quote, any reason why you're getting quoted for 14 panels, are you pushed for room up there?, sorry if its been posted before but I reply to quite a few threads and can't remember them all

Price wise they're bang on the money although the iboost seems a little minty, maybe try and get that price down a bit, possibly £200 to go with the install.

What type of wireless display we talking here too?

I only have room for 14 panels on the south facing side of the house, that's why I was going to go for the 285Kw panels.

Take a look at this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5191648

I'd try to aim for around the £5200 mark for the system(seraphims), iboost and monitoring although you'll notice on that thread that their price doesn't include the iboost so you may just have to go a little higher(all depends on your bartering skills)

I'm also led to believe(someone will correct if I'm wrong) that samil has something in connection with SMA so should be a suitable inverter for the job.

Edit, There's also the benQ 285W panels which are roughly the same price as the seraphims but have black frames(more pleasing to the eye if on front of house)

Does it make the job more difficult if it's being installed on Slate rather than tiles?

Did the installer come out to quote or was it done via email, if the latter, let them know, it shouldn't make any difference, I've seen plenty of installs on slate rooves

Just as an aside tunnel are there any companies you would recommend. I'm pleased with my prices, but want to be sure that the quality of work etc. is good.

Can't help you out with that one I'm afraid as I'm nowhere near your location, I can only point you in the right direction...ie eb$y, which is a good source for installers(that's actually where I found my WNW installer from, the only one that would entertain it too), I was hoping you may have had some pm's from on here too.

The rest....is all up to you!

ps, the prices you have are on the money so taking a little initiative and checking eb*y has certainly paid dividends for you.

Prices are good but there would be a couple of things that I would check -

They seem to have quoted inverters of 4500, 4200 etc - I think if you go over 4000 then you need prior permission from the DNO so it might be worth checking that with them.

Also check that the quote includes everything you need - scaffold, EPC etc as the added costs can soon push the price up.

    Hope this helps,

Good point pw22, I was told any inverter can be capped but as you say it may be better to just check first that any inverter supplied will be capped, I've looked at the prices and there's really not much difference for a 3680 capped inverter anyway so it shouldn't alter the price.
I'd be very surprised if scaffold wasn't included with a full supply and install(would love to see them install without it), maybe better to check about the EPC though(which can be done retrospectively once the panels are on and which just so happens to lower the EPCsmiley-happy088.gif)
