Another solar quote advise.

Hi all,

Want to decide on installer by weekend. Cannot rely any more than good old MSEers. Can you please help me decide on which is the best quotation.

Installer 1 –SolarWorld or Yingli 275 14 panels 3.85kwp Growatt invertor £5’549

Installer 2 2 LG Neon X 280 14panels 3.92kwp Sunny boy SMA £5’800

Installer 3 Hanergy 120w 28 panels 3.36kwp Sunny boy SMA £5690 ( Not keen due to number of panels

SAP calcuation KWP 3539 KWH

Total financial benefit £862

Roof details

Installed Capacity (W): 3920

Orientation (Degrees From South): 35

Inclination (Degrees From Horizontal): 35

I have got a combi boiler. No immersion tank. Is it work installing a immersion tank with iboost to maximise on energy produced. Househould with 9 month old child do use lot of hot water.

Do i need to opt for energy monitor or waste of money when novelty wears off.

Please suggest your opinion.

Knowing the retail prices of many different panels, I really don't think any of the quotes are great value for money.
Maybe ask about benQ 285Wp panels to both installer 1&2(would give you a 3.99kWp system), they're no more expensive than what they're quoting you, which brings me to the question, why are you getting quotes for higher capacity panels?, are you strapped for room up there?

Edit, forget quote 3, way too expensive for size of system

Is that usable space or actual roof space?

29m2 is the actual roof space facing south east.

Do you know your actual roof dimensions? L x W? Any decent installer would have measured it up.

Can't see the Hanergy's fitting then, as they'd need 27m2, or 28m2 allowing for 20mm gaps. Plus they are as heavy as 'normal' panels of ~250Wp, so that's twice the weight up there, a maxed out roof, if they fit, and less total kWp. But the same price.

[Edit: Sorry, you also have to leave about 200-300mm all round for various reasons. hence why I don't think 29m2 is enough. M.]

I much prefer the first two quotes, but can you get em down a bit more.

I'd love a tank and an immersion, but also have a combi. Can't see it paying for itself if I tried to find a way to incorporate a tank, just too much cost.

Monitors are fun, are you the sort of person that would stay interested. If not, then don't bother, but it is helpful to know what you're generating sometimes, so you know when to switch stuff on. I've had a 400W oil rad running all day (7.30am to 4.30pm) keeping the chill off the living room, because my monitors showed I was generating about 700W or more, so could run it for 'free'.

To give you an idea of costs, a standard 16 x 250Wp system should be around the £5k mark, the panels costing "retail" around £1840+vat yet 14 x benQ 285Wp panels cost retail around £2080+vat. You'll notice its just over £200 difference for the panels yet you still achieve a near 4kWp system. You'll find that installers will "mark" the price up for premium panels when in fact its just a couple of hundred quid more.

If you can get the quotes down to around £5200 with a SMA inverter then you'd be getting a good deal, haggle...haggle hard, I did for a friend and got £500 knocked off

Get a monitor of some sort, trust me...it NEVER wears off, plus with a child at home(and parent) as Mart says it helps to know when to switch stuff on.

    Hi Capstain411.

This is a quote a local installer is offering. There are a decent installer, and have carried out a few jobs for F+F in the past 6 month

Design & installation of 3kw solar PV system (12 x 250w CSUN modules in portrait orientation)

Hosolar 2500TL inverter with 5yr guarantee.

Price includes scaffold, EPC and VAT.

First year benefits approximately £500 (this is made up of Feed in tariff and estimated electricity savings. The FIT is guaranteed for 20 years and rises with inflation. Your savings will increase as electricity prices rise).

Installation usually takes 1 day with minimal disruption.

    Total - £5,450.00

(Obviously, this price/figs are subject to change.. How does it compare to yours)

That quote is way too much in todays market. Anybody looking for that size system should be looking at £3k-£3.5k. I sincerely hope you haven't taken them up on that price, there's no wonder they'll travel around the country with that amount of mark up on them.

Thank you discodave. I agree with solar guru tunnel the quotation is overpriced.

Tunnel, I have a visit today and followed your suggestion on Benq panels. I was quoted £5300 with Fronius invester and owl monitoring system. What do u think of the latest quote.
