Thanks for the titlecapstain411 wrote: »Thank you discodave. I agree with solar guru tunnel the quotation is overpriced.
Tunnel, I have a visit today and followed your suggestion on Benq panels. I was quoted £5300 with Fronius invester and owl monitoring system. What do u think of the latest quote.
although I thought that was reserved for Martyn1981
As for the price, is that for a 3.99kWp system..ie 14 x 285 benQ's?
If so then were on the same page here, that's a lot better, try a few more installers and pip them against each other, you may be able to get it down a bit more, nonetheless that sure is in the right ball park...well done you.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
Thank you for your posts.
Any thing which I need to be aware of before the installation is finalised. Inverter in loft or garage.0 -
Is the garage integral? if so, try to put the inverter in there as it should stay at a constant temperature. In the loft "should" be fine but during summer months lofts can get quite warm which may affect the efficiency of the inverter, I say may as nothing has been proven(I believe anyway)capstain411 wrote: »Any thing which I need to be aware of before the installation is finalised. Hi Tunnel,
This is best I could get after 4 quotes. The husband and wife team seem very reliable with lots of online recommendations.
Benq 285 w panel with 3.99 k output
Sma 3600 inverter
Schether mounting
Watson monitoring
Final price 5400.0 -
As you are restricted for space up there and would have to pay a higher price for higher wattage panels I think that's a damn good price considering standard 4kWp systems with quality gear would still cost around £5k mark.
Add to that you're getting a wattson...take a bow oh great negotiator
Now go onto the thread below and tell samRose how to do it
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5186830
I'm assuming you're taking that quote up?2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
Just thinking on, as you are the master negotiator, just check if you get an energyhive with the wattson(cost around £25 so try to get it chucked in). If you go onto the renewables thread and speak to our very own OscarGrouch he'll give you a link to his online monitoring for you to take a ganders at.
You can then check up while you're out to see if the other half is making the most of any nice weather.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -

From a 3.92kWp system with no monitor for £5800 to a 3.99kWp system with monitor for £5300 in 3 days got to say...well done...I'm impressed.
When's the install?
Edit, Thanks for sharing your journey, hopefully it may inspire others to barter their prices down.2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -

Great news, but I reckon you need to make your mind up about which one you want on Friday. At the very least the installers are gonna need to know, should they bring scaffolding, tools, drills, kit etc ....... or a bottle of wine and some Barry White music!
