PPI refund based on zero balance

Hi - I have just received a letter from
halifax with an offer for my PPI claim - the offer however is for only £88 as the breakdown States it is based on a balance of zero on 31/5/1996. I used this card a lot and took out a loan at the time to repay this and an overdraft so how can they base my claim on a zero amount on just one date when I would have been paying monthly for at least a year. I also noticed they paid the money into my bank today yet I only received the letter today dated 5/3/15! It's like they are trying to just fob me off. Should I query this?

Where statements are no longer available, they have to average back based on the statements that are available.

By all means, give them copies of your statements showing you paid more.
