When they say 'leaves a mark', they don't mean a black mark against you, it's just a record that you have applied to open another account. If there were dozens of these (as there will be on mine!) it might affect future applications to other banks etc. If there were just one or two, that would be quite normal and no other bank would take any notice, ie it wouldn't be held against you in any way.
Having said all that, I thought credit checks were only carried out where there was credit involved (eg a credit card or a current account with an overdraft). I'd be surprised if they carried one out for a savings account - or did he mean for the Advance A/c?0 -
Hi Biggles
No, HSBC have already converted our current account to the Advance account - they simply advised they were going to do it - unless we objected. (which we didn't). This new account still has the same account number etc. so they are not classing the current account as a "new" one.
The HSBC operator this morning said they would need to do a "credit" check for me to open the Regular Saver.
No credit or loan needed by me - would just like my money moved to the R S.0 -

; I know FD is a member of the HSBC group; but if you can qualify for both you can get £550/m at 6%

a good outcome then. so you have First Direct and now HSBC Regular Savers. only thing now is to 'do an Archi' and get yourself the M&S version, with an account opening incentive on the way into the current account too;)0
