Clearing desktop XP

I've ended up with loads of photo files on my desktop from my hols. I'm trying to get rid of them all. I've tried control , clicking on them and then delete but it then copies them again. I now have even more. How do I get rid of all of them at once? I don't mind clearing the desktop completely and starting from scratch, but I can't seem to do that.
Thanks in advance

right click on the photo then choose delete to do them one at a time or select one then hold down shift to manually select the others then right click and delete the lot.0

Hit the shift keys a few times, copying files like that is often a case of keys stuck...0 -

Create a folder on the desktop, open the folder, the address bar should say C:\documents and settings\<username>\desktop\new folder, go up a level (the up arrow) to the actual desktop folder.
If then you want to select only photos, select "search" and type in *.jpg, this will show all .jpg images on your desktop and any sub folders, just select them all and do what you want with them.
It's much easier to do desktop file operations when you can view it as a normal folder.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Strider, cheers. I've learned something there. Did what you said. It left me all the shortcuts. Did the same with them. All gone now.
