screensaver freezing please help

hi guys just bought a new computer and noticed that the screen saver occassionally freezes . ive tried 2 or 3 themes but still it sometimes freezes until i move the mouse backwards and forwards for a good 20 or so seconds to free it. any idea guys? kind regards brian.

abit motherboard, intel 2.6, kingston 1mb memory. xp sp2 cheers.

Well pc should be running smoothly then. Have you got good security software installed in case any malware has got on?

got avast anti virus (free version) , zone alarm. but no adware/spyware/malware as yet still looking for a good one which is easy to use. cheers.

Well there shouldn't be anything on the pc already, but might be worth going through the malware removal guide sticky on the techie board. At the least you can eliminate it being a malware problem.

Have you tried the Avast screen saver ? that scans while its on screen saver,could see if it still freezes using that one .

funny enough imho i tried the avast screensaver this afternoon and so far so good no freezes. i forgot to add that my screensaver freezes happened when i was offline. thanks mate also thanks again to superscaper. fingers crossed its ok now.
