I'm really fed up with an adult site ad which keeps popping up in front of my kids every time we e mail! is there a good ad blocker that I can use to bar this advert? a free one would be nice.

You should install Lavasoft ad-aware for free, browser hi-jacking attempts from advertisers taking over you system. (known as spyware).
It has a large database of know spyware and can safely detect and remove it from your system. This is updated periodically and is intergrated and updated from within the application. just click the update button periodicaly.

You will need more than one spyware program go to

adaware, spybot and the like aren't firewalls, they get rid of the naughty scumware files and are pretty much essential these days. Also have a look at the stickies at the top of this branch.

I'd also try and find the person who has been accessing "Adult" websites and cut of their privileges.

Trouble is this pc has been used by many in the past, previously owned too. I reckon i'll have to get iinto the files & sort out the dodgy ones.I dare not even let my kids e mail at the moment!

Are you using Internet Explorer to access an internet based email system?

If so i'd suggest using the Firefox browser instead, i've had lots of success with it blocking pop ups and hardly ever see them anymore (tbh i've forgotten what a bother they are!)
    https://www.getfirefox.com

If it catches a popup it displays a small message to say so, but won't display anything until explicitly told to.

    hope this helpful
