Does a landlord insurance claim affect non landlord?

I have one property I rent out, I will be selling it as I'm sick of the hassle. There's been a water damage claim running into the thousands.

I currently rent the house I live in, but will be buying a house when the home I rent out is sold. When I take out insurance for the house I intend to buy, do I need to declare the claim made at the landlord property? Or would this be considered separate from residential insurance?

Reason I ask is, I've never lived in the house... the claim was made while a tenant was in it and part of me thinks that's a business related claim. But more than likely I'm wrong haha... just thought I'd ask?

If the policy was taken out by your business and it's limited then it's completely separate from you personally.

Basically the house was bought with a view to my wife and I moving into it. One of us was offered a job working elsewhere unexpectedly so we put it out for rent.

We don't have a company name, we just rent the house out but have never lived in it. So does this mean just because we didn't register a company name the claim now goes against us and would need to be declared when we take out our own residential insurance policy for a separate house when we buy it?

When you get to that stage get quotes without the claim being declared. Contact the relevant insurers then checking if Landlord claims need to be declared or not.

Speaking to DL on their live chat they advise its only Home Insurance claims and so one on a Landlord policy doesnt need to be mentioned for example
